Club partner with McCarthy Stone on Walking Football

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust has joined forces with McCarthy Stone to deliver competitive Walking Football opportunities.

Through the popular Walking Football programme, the trust have been able to develop teams in three age groups to take part in fixtures, both locally and across the country. In addition to the recreational options, the teams train weekly, which provide further opportunity to improve people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

McCarthy Stone is the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, managing over 475 retirement communities and supporting around 20,000 people all over the country.

Open to men and women, the Walking Football programme offers teams in the over 50, 60 and 70 age groups.

As part of the team, the players train once a week, and take part in fixtures against other professional football clubs, local teams and in cup competitions throughout the season.

Steve Cuss, Head of AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust, said: “We now have over 50s, 60s and over 70s Walking Football teams playing competitively and enjoying the social benefits of team sports.”

“We are grateful to McCarthy Stone for the support in this important area of development of the teams.”

Shane Paull, McCarthy Stone Divisional Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to link up with AFC Bournemouth on such a vital venture.  Through our developments we see how important companionship and maintaining mobility is for people as they get older.  We wish the teams all the best for the season.”
