Women's Development Squad join National League

AFC Bournemouth are delighted to announce that the Women’s Development Squad have joined the National League Reserve South-West Division for the 2022/23 season.

The Cherries were crowned Southern Region Women’s Football League champions back in March, following an unbeaten season where they won 15 out of their 18 games.

The team will now play other National League Reserve sides such as Bridgwater United, Exeter City and Portsmouth FC, as well as participating in the Reserves WNL Cup competition.

Women’s team manager Steve Cuss spoke to afcb.co.uk about his delight with another progression in the AFC Bournemouth women and girls pathway.

“We are delighted with the progression of the Development Squad, which provides a good platform for the players to continue their football.

“The advancement to The FA Women’s National League will further challenge the squad and provide a good level of competition.”

The Women’s Development Squad will play their home fixtures at Verwood Town FC this season and will open their campaign on Sunday 4th September at 2pm, welcoming Plymouth Argyle.

They’ll then travel to Bridgwater United in the determining round of the League Cup the following Sunday.
