Surman extends until 2020

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman has signed a one-year contract extension.

The 31-year-old, who had 12 months remaining on his current deal, has put pen to paper on new terms which will keep him at Vitality Stadium until the summer of 2020.

Surman has made 197 appearances for the Cherries in all competitions across three spells with the club – two of those being on loan.

First joining on a temporary basis from south coast neighbours Southampton in the 2005-06 season, Surman returned to Dorset in the summer of 2013, again on loan, before making the switch permanent just over a year later.

He has played an important part in the club’s journey to the top flight, helping establish AFC Bournemouth as a Premier League side, as well as captaining the Cherries on a number of occasions.

“I'm really pleased to sign,” said Surman. "I love playing for this club and I have loved my time here so far.

"It has been a great time to have been part of the club, so to extend my time further is a great achievement.

"From a personal point of view, I want to help the club finish higher than we did last season."

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: “The club’s journey to the Premier League is one that has been spoken about many times, and Andrew has been key to that in the heart of our midfield.

“As well as being an excellent footballer, he is an outstanding professional and someone who has many years left in the game because of the way he looks after himself.

“He still has plenty to offer us and I’m delighted that Andrew has signed a new contract.”
