Smith pens contract extension

AFC Bournemouth can announce long-serving defender Adam Smith has extended his contract at the club until June 2024.

Smith continues his long association with the Cherries, having made 306 appearances for the club.

A graduate of Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, Smith initially joined the club on loan in 2010/11, playing 38 times in League One.

He re-joined the club on a permanent basis in January 2014, becoming a regular as the Cherries established themselves in the Premier League.

Smith is one of only two players who have won promotion to the top-flight with the club on two occasions, playing a role in the 2015 and 2022 successes alongside Junior Stanislas.

Having featured in Saturday’s win over Aston Villa, Smith has made 144 Premier League appearances for the club, the most of any current serving player.

Neill Blake, AFC Bournemouth Chief Executive, told the club website: “We’re delighted to be keeping Adam with us for a further season and it is very encouraging to see another key player commit their future to us. Everyone knows how valuable he is to the club and his experience and leadership skills are second to none, so I’ve no doubt he will continue to play a key role both on and off the pitch.”
