Saydee completes loan move to Shrews

AFC Bournemouth striker Christian Saydee has joined League One outfit Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old Londoner will work under former Cherries frontman Steve Cotterill at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Saydee has progressed through the ranks at Vitality Stadium since joining the club when he was 16 and is now a member of the first-team squad.

He played a starring role on his full debut for the club in the dramatic penalty shootout victory against Norwich in the second round of the Carabao Cup last week.

Saydee had a hand in Emi Marcondes’s equaliser on the stroke of half-time and held his nerve by scoring his spot kick during the shootout.

A prolific marksman during his time in the academy, Saydee made five substitute appearances for the first team last season and also had a loan spell at Burton Albion in League One.

He made an explosive start to 2021/22, scoring after coming off the bench in the Cherries’ emphatic 5-0 victory over MK Dons in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Saydee also featured twice in the Championship and once in the FA Cup before making 18 appearances for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Brewers.

Shrewsbury have taken six points from their first six league games this season and visit Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
