AFC Bournemouth development squad midfielder Ben Winterburn has returned to Weymouth on a month’s loan.

Winterburn, who can also operate as a defender, made three appearances for the Terras during the first half of the season.

The 19-year-old has played a leading role as Alan Connell’s team have impressed in their first season at category two academy status.

Winterburn has helped the Cherries challenge for the Professional Development League title and reach the last 16 of the Premier League Cup and the semi-final of the Servio Hampshire Men’s Senior Cup.

He has just hit the comeback trail having sustained an ankle injury during the Cherries’ 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic in January.

Winterburn, who also served AFC Totton on loan this season, is expected to go straight into the Weymouth squad for their Easter Monday derby with National League South leaders Yeovil Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium (1pm kick-off).

Goalkeeping coach Jason Matthews and former Cherries star Josh McQuoid assumed interim charge of the Terras following the departure of manager Bobby Wilkinson last week.
