Rogers joins the Cherries on loan

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of exciting teenage winger Morgan Rogers.

Rogers has joined the Cherries on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Manchester City in a move which could be made permanent with an option as part of the agreement.

The versatile 19-year-old, who can operate anywhere across the front three, had been attracting interest from a number of Premier League and Championship clubs.

Rogers becomes head coach Scott Parker’s fifth addition, following Emiliano Marcondes, Leif Davis, Orjan Nyland and Gary Cahill to Vitality Stadium.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk: “Morgan has all the attributes to become an outstanding player which Manchester City clearly recognised when they signed him.

“He had a good grounding in the academy at West Brom and enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Lincoln City in League One last season, helping them reach the play-off final.

“We are absolutely delighted to have secured his services and he can only add to what is a young, talented and exciting squad of players – we very much look forward to working with him.”

Halesowen-born Rogers progressed through the academy ranks at West Brom and made his debut as a 15-year-old when he featured in their under-23s’ EFL Trophy defeat by Walsall in September 2017.

He made his professional debut in an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Brighton in February 2019 before Manchester City signed him in August 2019 after Rogers had impressed against them in the FA Youth Cup semi-final in April 2019.

Rogers enjoyed a productive loan spell with Lincoln City during the second half of last season, netting six goals in 28 games as they reached the League One play-offs.

He won the EFL League One young player of the month after scoring three goals in seven games in March 2021 and started both legs of their semi-final against Sunderland and the final when the Imps lost out to Blackpool at Wembley.

On the international front, Rogers has represented England at under-15, 16, 17 and 18 level and scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 win over Belgium as the Young Lions lifted the Under-17 Syrenka Cup in 2018.
