Parker targeting improvements for Sociedad visit

AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker said he is keen to see performance improvements ahead of Real Sociedad’s visit.

In the first of two home pre-season friendlies, the Cherries suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nigel Pearson’s Bristol City.

A second-half Chris Martin penalty was enough to seal victory for the Robins at Vitality Stadium.

Speaking to the press following the defeat, Parker admitted: “I get where we currently are and I get that it’s a tough pre-season, but there were a lot of areas that we need to improve drastically.

“In terms of all aspects - tactically, technically, personality at times and the mentality about us.

“We need to improve in certain moments, and we have a full week now to, hopefully, do that.

“I have a full week with the team to explain exactly what we’re going to need to be, certainly next Saturday.”

Despite feeling improvement was required, Parker was still pleased with the work done in pre-season to date.

“We’ve had a good pre-season in terms of hard work and the work we’ve put into the team,” he said.

“We’re trying some different things and we’re engaged in that, so there’s been that element.”

The head coach also felt that the final friendly of pre-season was the toughest when looking ahead to the La Liga side’s visit.

He added: “We’ve got a tough test. The toughest of pre-season against Sociedad in a week’s time, that’ll be a good test for us.

“We need to improve from where we were today, for sure.”
