Mings - We showed plenty of heart

AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings has spoken after a dramatic encounter with Manchester City.

Eddie Howe’s side took the lead on 13 minutes, as a Charlie Daniels wonder strike flew past Ederson. However, the visitors came back strongly, firstly through a Bernardo Silva strike and then via Raheem Sterling who netted a 97th minute winner.

Mings was quick to praise the efforts of the Cherries squad, before also crediting Pep Guardiola’s side for their quality.

“We have to look at the positives and look forward to the next game,” he told afcbTV.

“I got called in early to the game against Manchester City last year so I certainly knew what they’re about.

“I knew their capabilities and they go right to the end but playing against these teams are games that I enjoy.

“Maybe we have to be a little bit wiser sometimes. Perhaps we could have tried to go for the corner or tried to pin them in but no matter how long the clock runs for we have to defend for that amount of time.

“It’s difficult to take at the moment but the fight we showed today hasn’t been there in the last couple of league games so that’s the main thing we can take.

“We showed so much heart and fight but it’s disappointing to be sat on zero points instead of one. We have to get ourselves going again.”

Mings was also keen to look ahead to the next couple of weeks and how it can give the Cherries a chance to regroup following the defeat.

“The disappointment we feel at the moment has to turn into passion and we must channel that passion into the next couple of weeks,” he continued.

“It certainly gives everyone a chance to put themselves in the managers thoughts and it has to be positive for the players that are still here.

“We’ve got to maintain the fight we showed today every day in training and make sure that, by the time the Arsenal game comes around, we’re ready.”
