Manager reacts to West Brom defeat

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was left disappointed by his side’s opening day defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking to afcbTV, here’s what the manager had to say on the tight contest at The Hawthorns.

On the defeat…

It was disappointing of course. We dominated possession as we expected to do but we didn’t do enough with the ball.

Ultimately we didn’t create enough and that’s disappointing.

On what the side could have differently…

I think we maybe could have moved the ball quicker. The pitch was slow and long, that suits them and the way they play.

That extra touch was slowing the game down, it got better as the game went on but despite that late pressure we couldn’t make that chance we needed.

We could’ve done better for the goal, the foul we gave away for the free-kick too, it’s difficult to go 1-0 down to this team.

Were there any positives…

We're not finished article obviously, we’ll analyse the game and come back stronger for next week.

Jordon Ibe's performance second half was a positive and the way we dominated possession. You have to earn that right in the Premier League.

Each game is different so Jordon isn’t guaranteed to start, we’ll look at the specific opponent and see who will play.

Simon Francis’ injury…

Simon felt his hamstring and it’s not an injury he’s had before. It’s unlike him to pick up injuries, he’s been so consistent and we’ll have to see how he is.
