Injury News: Late call on Senesi

Gary O'Neil spoke with the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend's game against Leicester City.

The Cherries travel to the King Power Stadium for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon for their first away fixture in three weeks.

Speaking on the squad, the head coach provided a fitness update on his players, which begun by discussing the latest on centre-back Marcos Senesi.

The defender was substituted in the second half of Tuesday's 2-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Vitality Stadium.

“Marcos has a slight hamstring concern, but we’ll check again in the morning. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

“In terms of Illia Zabarnyi, he’s trained well for a while. Obviously his last competitive game was a while ago so that’s a consideration, but he’s fit enough to play a real substantial part if needed.

“Obviously the more we can work with him and get him up to speed, the better he’ll be. He’s in a decent spot though.”

O'Neil went on to discuss the remainder of the squad, placing particular emphasis on Marcus Tavernier, who returned from injury in last week’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

“He’s closer to making a start,” O’Neil continued.

“He’s had two decent sub appearances, so we’ll see how he is in the morning. We have people specialised in that area, so I’ll speak to them and get the advice. I’ll obviously speak to Tav himself as well and we’ll try and make a real good decision on it.

“Everyone would’ve loved him to be available for 90 minutes for the last two games but it’s important that he’s available for the rest of the season. We need to handle it correctly but he’s come through another good week.

“There’s potential he could play a big part at Leicester tomorrow. There’s a lot he can do to make a difference. Obviously, the group has done okay at the minute, but Tav is a lovely addition to it.

“He’s a great lad, he brings a buzz around the place as well as his quality. He’ll be a big player for us and he’s getting fitter by the day.”
