AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has spoken following the Cherries’ 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Vitality Stadium.
Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game, as Antonio Conte’s side left with all three points after a well-fought effort for the Cherries.
Following the defeat, Cook shared his thoughts with afcbTV.
“We defended well enough today, but the goal was hard to take,” he claimed.
“You’re going to have to defend for longer spells than normal, but you need to be a threat as well and today I don’t think we were.
“You have to be more defensive-minded against these sides anyway and, if you do that, then you have to try not to concede.
“We conceded just into the second half and we had enough time to impose ourselves in the game, but it didn’t quite materialise.
“We have to be winning games now, especially at home. We go into a huge group of matches now and it’s going to be pivotal in our season I think.
“We went to Newcastle a couple of years ago and got a huge result so we know what needs to be done. I think next Saturday is a totally different test for us.”
Prior to the game, the centre-back also attracted attention for a gesture on social media.
After loyal fan Ethan was left without a ticket for the clash with Chelsea, Cook stepped up and provided two tickets for the youngster to attend today’s game.
“I bought a lot of tickets for today and I saw that request on twitter so there’s no point wasting tickets,” he explained.
“We see the lad Ethan around the club a lot so it’s nice for him to be able to have the chance to come.
“I’m always looking to help around and it’s not a massive deal for me because there’s no reason why I wouldn’t do something like that.
“It’s nice that they appreciate it and I hope they had a good time at the game.”
