Anthony pens long-term contract

Jaidon Anthony has committed his long-term future to AFC Bournemouth by signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract, the club is pleased to announce.

Anthony has continued to make excellent progress following an outstanding breakthrough season when he helped the Cherries win promotion to the Premier League.

The frontman has featured 16 times in the top flight, netting crucial goals in both games against Nottingham Forest and completing the scoring in the 3-0 win over Everton.

Anthony, whose new deal will keep him at Vitality Stadium at least until the summer of 2027, joined the Cherries academy in 2016 having spent ten years on the books at Arsenal.

The 23-year-old told afcb.co.uk: “I’m delighted to get it over the line. I want to continue to focus on my football and hopefully have a good rest of the season.

“The club have shown a lot of faith in me over the past few years and that’s been very much appreciated. Hopefully, I can repay them on the pitch.

“The new owners have come in and they’ve got an exciting project, an idea of where they want the club to go. It’s going to be an honour to be a part of it and try to push the club forward.

“They have added some top players and I think we’ve got an exciting young team and, hopefully, we can have some success on the pitch.”

Anthony successfully graduated to the club’s development squad in 2018 having impressed during his two-year scholarship with the under-18s.

He helped Weymouth win promotion to the National League during a fruitful loan spell in 2019/20 before celebrating his 21st birthday by making his first-team debut in December 2020.

Anthony made seven substitute appearances in the Championship and FA Cup in 2020/21 before making his mark as the Cherries reclaimed a place in the Premier League in 2021/22.

One of the biggest success stories of a momentous campaign, only Dom Solanke made more appearances than Anthony who contributed eight goals and seven assists in all competitions.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club website: “We are delighted Jaidon has signed this new contract and we look forward to continue working with him.

“As a club, we are determined to keep our best young players and this is Jaidon’s reward for all the hard work he has done for us.

“He is an exciting player who we feel will only continue to develop and he has shown he can perform in the Premier League, the best and most competitive league in the world.”
