Young goalkeeper Cameron Plain has signed a one-year extension with AFC Bournemouth and will remain at the club for the duration of next season.
Having arrived at the club in 2018, joining from Winchester's under-16s, he has represented the Cherries at both under-18 and under-23 level.
Plain was in the squad which reached the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup in 2018/19 and involved as the development squad lifted the Central League Cup in April 2019.
The 19-year-old has also experienced senior football, first signing on loan for Wessex League side Ringwood, before later linking up with Bashley.
During the 2019/20 season, Plain joined Wimborne Town on a work experience loan and, following a string of impressive appearances, was invited to train with the England under-18 and under-19 goalkeepers at St George’s Park.
The shot-stopper has also travelled with the first team on two occasions in the last year, making the trips to Barnsley and Cardiff as the third 'keeper.
Speaking to afcb.co.uk on the extension, Plain said: “It’s always the same challenge with an extension, you always want to get the next one.
“Each year people always say that it’s a big year for you, but I feel like, especially in my eyes, this is probably one of the biggest years I’ve got.
“Especially with the one year, I feel like I’ve got something to prove, and I just want to go out there and do well.”
As well as being a big year for Plain personally, the young ‘keeper felt he has a good opportunity to continue progressing with the Cherries.
“I think the staff here are great, right down to the under-18s all the way up to the new members in the first team,” he explained.
“It always feels homely and it’s a club that you can just imagine staying at. Like Alan Connell says, he’s been here 20 years and it’s now his new home.
“You can definitely imagine something like that, I’ve just got the push on from here.”
