AFC Bournemouth loanee Morgan Rogers promoted the message of safety to children in a special community workshop with Yellow Buses.
The 19-year-old was keen to get involved by helping in the workshop that looks closely at children’s safety while travelling using a variety of methods, including buses, cars, cycling and on foot, along with how to behave appropriately when using these different forms of transport.
Rogers, who was joined by Cherries legend Steve Fletcher at Winton Primary School last week, combined with Yellow Buses – who have been operating in the local area for over 100 years.
Their rich heritage in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, sees them carry just under 15 million passengers a year as part of their 131-strong bus fleet.
The lessons being taught in schools as part of the workshop were emphasised by the Cherries duo in attendance, with the children also taking part in a special Q&A with both Rogers and Fletcher.
Rogers said of his first community appearance since joining the club: “I really enjoyed interacting with the kids, it feels a long time ago now since I was in the same position as them!
“It’s massively important to learn how to be safe with public transport from a young age and I was delighted to get involved and help the Community Sports Trust and Yellow Buses deliver the message.
“It’s my first appearance out in the community and the club is so community driven, which is fantastic to see.”
Fiona Harwood, Marketing Sales Manager at Yellow Buses, said: “We’re in the sixth year of our partnership now and it’s just been great for us. The kids are our future and it’s really important they know how to stay safe. They’re so excited when they see the players coming in and it’s a great way for them to learn about road safety.”
