Powerchair teams in fine form

The AFC Bournemouth Powerchair teams have had a busy few weeks, with both sides taking part in Wheelchair FA Cup fixtures and the first team travelling to Nottingham for National League Championship fixtures.

The Warriors’ first team were 2-0 winners over Reading PFC in the WFA Cup first round, with the Cherries putting in an excellent display.

After an even start, the Cherries took the initiative seven minutes into the second-half, Regan won the ball back near the half way line and played a long ball through to Josh, who played the perfect ball across the pitch to Liam to apply the finish and score his first AFC Bournemouth goal.

Five minutes later, the Cherries were rewarded with a fine second goal, Regan won the ball on the edge of the box and played a pass to Ryan – Ryan was able to score a great goal from his own half to round off the scoring.

The result puts the Cherries into the hat for the next round against Aspire PFC in the New Year.

Later in the day, the Development Squad also played but were beaten by Evergreen PFC – who are a strong National League side.

The Development Squad put in a valiant effort against a strong side – and almost scored when Ronaldo went close following a good pass across the pitch from Chris.

Despite some magnificent defensive work from Adam and Connor, Evergreen were able to score a goal at the near post before adding a second moments later.

From then on, Sophie and Keith made some great saves but Evergreen showed their experience by adding further goals to secure the win.

The teams were back in action the following week as the first team travelled to Nottingham for their next five National League fixtures.

The Cherries were winners in their opening four games against Norwich City PFC, Electric Eels, Bolton Bullets and Nottingham Forest.

Those four wins saw some great goalscoring work from Ryan and Regan, with Ryan scoring a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest as well as some top defensive work from Matt in goal.

The last game of the weekend saw the team up against Evergreen PFC which would complete their full house of wins, they scored an early goal through Ryan but then allowed Evergreen to get back into the game, Evergreen played well and kept the score at 1-0 for the majority of the game.

With seven minutes to go the ball made its way through to Josh at the back post who got his first goal of the weekend as his shot was deflected into the goal. Josh then made way for Liam who came onto the pitch and got his first goal for the club. Regan finished off the scoring to make the result 4-0.

The Cherries finished the weekend second in the table and with Ryan currently the league's top goalscorer with an impressive 13 goals.
