AFC Bournemouth has been working with the Premier League Primary Stars program to help local teachers deliver better football lessons.
At St Walburga’s Primary School year six teacher Rebecca Dare wasn’t confident teaching football, but after working with AFC Bournemouth she now feels able to deliver positive sessions in the future.
As well as receiving lesson help and advice from the Community Sports Trust team, the school also received a visit from Cherries striker Benik Afobe, who spoke to the children about the importance of respect.
Rebecca spoke about her experience: “I’d never actually taught football until earlier in the year when we had people come in from AFC Bournemouth who coached the children in different skills.
“It’s given me a lot of confidence to go and teach football, whereas before I would have felt really insecure and not so confident.
“We learned something new every week and I could actually then incorporate it into my own teaching. Next year when we teach football again I can use the skills myself.”

Head of community Steve Cuss was also part of the program, and spoke about how the club are able to develop teachers and students in the Bournemouth area.
“Premier League Primary Stars has been a fantastic way to engage with Bournemouth primary schools, benefiting both the pupils who participate but also supporting teachers in providing high quality PE teaching," he said.
“We are very much looking forward to working with the Bournemouth schools as well as expanding the Premier League Primary Stars project into Poole.”
