Gosling and Yellow Buses put safety first

Children at Avonwood Primary School got a kick out of one special lesson when AFC Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling came to visit on a Yellow Bus.

Gosling is the player ambassador for the Community Sport Trust’s Soccer Safety School, a programme that is driving safety lessons into classrooms.

Yellow Buses – which also owns Yellow Coaches – is a sponsor and helping the club visit schools in the community where youngsters are taught how to stay safe.

Three classes at the Bournemouth school met midfield maestro Gosling, as well as the organisation’s mascot Buster Bear.

Steve Cuss, the club’s head of community, has developed the programme that is proving a hit across the conurbation.

He said: “Together with Yellow Buses we have been bringing fun safety lessons to schools for four years now, and we are still looking for new schools to join.

“The Safety Soccer School highlights the risks and dangers that children face when out playing.

“These involve road safety, which is something that Yellow Buses are experts in.

“We all want our children to be healthy and fit, but we also want them to remain safe when they’re playing.”

Gosling said: “It was great to meet all the children and see them hone their football skills as well as learning some valuable life lessons.

“Children are far better off outside playing and if we can make that safer for them, then it is of benefit for everyone.”

Fiona Harwood, from Yellow Buses, also commented: “These safety lessons have been a huge success over the last few years and hopefully what the youngsters learn will stay with them for life.”
