Defoe and Stanislas visit Gully's Place

Jermain Defoe and Junior Stanislas made a special visit to Gully’s Place at Poole Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

Located on the children’s unit at Poole Hospital, Gully’s Place has been developed to support children’s palliative care across Dorset.

Gully’s Place are the club’s Junior Cherries charity partner for the 2018/19 season, with Defoe and Stanislas meeting patients, parents and staff on the ward.

The Cherries pair were then given a special guided tour of the Gully’s Place facility, which features a purpose-designed space with one bedroom, complete with en-suite facilities.

The aim of the Gully’s Place suite is to provide privacy and dignity for patients, their parents and families who require palliative and end-of-life care.

“Gully’s has a completely different feel,” Stanislas told afcbTV during the visit.

“It doesn’t feel like a hospital, with wards and curtains around beds. It’s a very private space and the families in this facility can make this space their own.

Karen Fernley, matron of the children’s unit at Poole Hospital, said: “It’s fantastic for Gully’s Place to receive the support of the football club.

“The children and the staff were really excited to welcome both Jermain and Junior, and they have put smiles on a lot of faces by being here.”
