Community Sports Trust launch Unity League

Saturday 13th January saw AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust launch their involvement in the running of the Unity League.

The league has been running for a number of years, consisting of a weekly fixture between teams from local organisations that aid people with their recovery from mental health issues.

On Saturday, teams were welcomed into the new-look league by being presented with a set of Umbro kits from the Community Sports Trust.

They were then introduced to head of community Steve Cuss, who talked about the importance of the league and how pleased the Community Sports Trust are to be involved.

Teams attended from Dorset Mental Health Forum and the Quay Foyer, whilst Canford Cannons and the Tigers were also in attendance.

After the introductions, the players and referees made their way to the pitches, where every side played each other in a friendly tournament.

Teams played five lots of ten minute matches, with spectators witnessing some great skills and enthusiasm throughout to score some fantastic goals and make some brilliant defensive blocks.

After the event, Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk: “The Unity League provides a fantastic opportunity for regular competitive fixtures, bringing together organisations supporting awareness around mental health.”

“We are delighted to be involved in the league.”

Following on from this, games will now take place once a week at Littledown, where all sides will compete for points that can take them up the table in the Unity League.
