Club get involved with World Book Day

AFC Bournemouth are supporting World Book Day, with a host of activities taking place across the community.

A donation of 400 books to eight local primary school has provided further resources to promote reading, including at St James, Pokesdown and Bearwood Primary Schools.

Pokesdown Primary are also benefiting from the Community Sports Trust’s Reading Stars programme, which is being delivered across the course of the week by club coaches.

Additionally, a live reading lesson for children who are being home-schooled will be carried out by Steve Cuss and his team, with participants from the club’s Premier League Kicks programme participating.

There is also plenty of resources that can be accessed from home, with the club producing a World Book Day education pack which is available here and Premier League Communities hosted a quiz with the National Literacy Trust. That can be accessed here

However, that’s not it! We’ve also been supporting Tops Days Nursery with their Great Big Read campaign, with Cuss reading two stories that are now available to watch on the organisation’s YouTube channel. Click here for The Sleepy Kitten or here for Little Beans Friends.

Following a superb few days of activities, our head of community shared his delight with afcb.co.uk.

“We are delighted to support the important topic of reading through the Great Big Read and World Book Day, providing resources and lessons to many local children.

“We look forward to continuing to provide support through our Primary Stars project, sponsored by Medhurst IT.”
