AFC Bournemouth are proud to be supporting Level Playing Field’s 'Weeks of Action' campaign.
The disability charity is celebrating the campaign from Saturday 27 February to Sunday 14 March, with the aim of showcasing the good work being delivered by clubs and organisations to improve accessibility and inclusion across all sports.
As with fans, Level Playing Field will be absent from the terraces this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which means the campaign has gone virtual for the first time ever.
But AFC Bournemouth have pledged to help by educating disabled supporters about Level Playing Field and to promote understanding about what they do, what their aims are to improve accessibility and inclusion and how they can assist generally with disabled supporters.
As a result, the club’s Community Sports Trust has been sharing posts on social media, highlighting the opportunities for children and adults with disabilities, and how they can get involved in sessions.
Additionally, there was a virtual watch-a-long as Jonathan Woodgate's Cherries played Watford at Vitality Stadium two weeks ago, with young participants from the club's disability programmes all involved. Once again, this will take place for tomorrow's game with Barnsley.
There was also an opportunity for members of the club's Ability Counts team to get together over Zoom on Thursday and chat with powerchair player, Ryan Skinner.
Ryan spoke about how the sport continues to make a positive impact on his mental well-being and how it could do the same for others.
With Saturday’s fixture against Barnsley being the Cherries' dedicated game to Level Playing Field’s campaign, head of community Steve Cuss spoke with afcb.co.uk about its positive impact.
“We were delighted to come together with Level Playing Field and highlight our disability program and pathway through the weeks of action,” he began.
“We are extremely proud of all our participants across our projects and thank them for their continued support.”
