Cherries Exit the WFA Cup in Second Round

Last weekend, AFC Bournemouth’s Powerchair team hosted their second round WFA Cup game against Aspire PFC at Purbeck Sports Centre.

Aspire PFC are a well renowned club in the Powerchair Community, having won several Premiership titles, WFA Cup Tournaments and competed in European Cup tournaments.

As expected, there was a tough start to the game for the Cherries, with Aspire scoring two early goals, one from an expertly worked corner. AFC Bournemouth responded well and started to have more possession inside the Aspire half, growing in confidence as the match progressed.

Matt and Regan were solid at the back, with the former making some fantastic off-the-line saves to keep his side in the game. Just before the half-time whistle, Aspire made one last push forward only for England Captain, Jon Bolding, to score another goal.

After a half-time regroup, the Cherries came out ready to push for a goal in the second half. They started positively, with Josh, Ryan and Regan getting into an attacking formation and threatening the Aspire goal on a couple of occasions.

Unfortunately, pushing for the goal meant leaving more space at the back, which was exploited by the experienced opposition, who put two more past Matt in the AFC Bournemouth net.

The game ended as a 5-0 defeat for AFC Bournemouth, as Aspire PFC progressed to the third round of the competition.
