AFC Bournemouth under-12 girls were the first of the Cherries age groups to return to match action following a short break over Christmas.

With some changes having been made to the league set up, the girls looked forward to travelling to Winchester. The last time the two sides met, the Cherries edged the game with a 3-1 victory.

Winchester were quick to apply pressure to the Cherries back-line from kick off, which was rewarded as the home side took an early lead after nicking the ball from the AFC Bournemouth defence.

The Cherries responded well and were able to come back with an equaliser not long after going behind. Aimee C’s expert finish levelled the scoreline, as she finished following a great ball from Isobel.

With both sides having chances, it was the hosts who regained the league, breaking through the Bournemouth midfield to score an excellent goal just before half time.

Following the interval, the Cherries applied early pressure. Good combination play between Amiee L. and Talulla created several opportunities to score, but none were taken.

The pressure continued, as both Amiee L. and Zara came close to bagging, but it would be Alice who netted the side’s second equalising goal of the game.

As the clock counted down, AFC Bournemouth were throwing bodies forward to score the winner, to which Winchester reacted well on the counter-attack.

Cherries ‘keeper Kayleigh pulled off some excellent saves to keep her team in the game, however the Winchester striker reacted well to one and scored the final goal of the game as the hosts won it 3-2.
