AFC Bournemouth to partake in Girls Football Festival

AFC Bournemouth is one of 24 clubs taking part in the Premier League Girls Festival at St. George’s Park tomorrow.

The festival will see eight Cherries players, aged between 14 and 16, compete in group matches against Arsenal, Burnley, MK Dons, Preston North End and Southampton.

AFC Bournemouth has been running their girls programme for a year, with turn-up-and-play sessions consequently seeing over 250 young females engaged since September 2016.

Additionally, the programme continues to support the club’s Women’s and Girls’ teams who train weekly and compete against local sides on weekends.

Those representing the club at St. George’s Park all come from Sunday morning sessions, which featured on Match of the Day last season and are run by the programme.

Head of Community Steve Cuss has expressed his excitement about the festival.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk, he said: “We are very much looking forward to attending the Girls Festival at St Georges Park.

“It will be a fantastic event showcasing all the good work being delivered across the country by Communities promoting Girls football.

“The Girls programme continues to grow at AFC Bournemouth and we are pleased to be able to offer this day to regulars from our weekly coaching sessions.”
