AFC Bournemouth girls ready for the season

It’s been a busy month for the AFC Bournemouth girls teams, who faced opposition from across the south as they prepared for the new season.

The youngest age group, the undere-10s, were made up entirely of new players and faced local opposition in Wimborne, Mudeford and TG Academy. The fixtures were all a good test for the young side, as they put into practice their hard work on the training pitch.

The under-10s also hosted their counterparts from Swindon Town, along with the two under-12 teams, the under-14s and the under-16s. Across the five fixtures played against the Robins, the Cherries scored a total of 47 goals.

Other fixtures for the under-12s, under-14s and under-16s included games on the road against Brighton and Reading’s regional talent centre.

The final region talent side to play the Cherries in pre-season were Essex, who visited the south coast to play the two under-12 sides, the under-14s and the under-16s. The under-12s registered a draw and a defeat, whilst the under-16s were narrowly beaten in an enthralling game which finished 3-2.

The under-14s picked up a win against Essex, with four different goal-scorers all contributing to the win. Zara, Hannah, Scarlett and new signing Olivia all hit the back of the net in their warm-up fixture.

The only other local game played during pre-season, was the under-12s nine-a-side game against Broadstone Girls, the two sides meeting at Potterne Park for the game which saw the Cherries win 4-0. It was great test for the Cherries, who worked hard and created lots of chances, which were finished well by Isabella, Seni and Daisy. G.

The teams now look ahead to the season, with the under-10 and under-12 teams playing in the Hampshire Youth Girls League and the under-14 and under-16 teams playing the Junior Premier League.
