Neto and Fletch enjoy football fun with Elizabeth House residents

AFC Bournemouth captain, Neto, joined former player and club legend, Steve Fletcher, at a Care South residential home earlier this month.

The organisation, which are not-for-profit, are a leading provider of residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as care at home, across the south of England.

With its roots based in the local community, Care South offer a full range of care services for people of all ages, from those who need temporary help with everyday life to people looking for a new home with full-time care.

Care South are a long-standing Official Partner of the Community Sports Trust and staff at Elizabeth House in Poole were delighted to welcome Neto and Fletcher to their facility earlier this week.

The duo spent time with residents and participated in their weekly activities provided by the Community Sports Trust. Neto, in particular, spent time with a very special resident John, who was a steward for AFC Bournemouth across a 55-year spell.

John, who lives with a degree of dementia, was talking Neto through his memories and love of the club alongside his grandson, with the pair having previously attended games at Vitality Stadium together.

Following the event, head of Community, Steve Cuss, spoke with afcb.co.uk about its success: “We’ve worked with Care South for a number of years now and we thoroughly enjoy coming into the homes to spend time with the residents.

“This session was extra special as we had Neto and Fletch on site. The residents enjoyed speaking to the pair throughout the afternoon and playing a host of games with them, including kicking the footballs into the goal.”

Sarah Brunt, Activities Lead for Elizabeth House, also commented: “It was wonderful to see John’s face light up when Neto and Steve Fletcher walked into the room. He is a huge fan of the Cherries and so it was a real honour to make this special experience happen for him. We had a huge turnout from the residents in our care for this event which was a great way to support them to have fun while staying active.”

AFC Bournemouth would like to extend its thanks to Care South for their continued support of the club.
