Obituary: David Shearer

AFC Bournemouth is saddened to learn of the passing of David Shearer who played for the club during the 1987/88 season.

David, who died on Sunday aged 63, scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Cherries after being signed by Harry Redknapp in October 1987.

The Scottish striker started his playing career with Highland League outfit Clachnacuddin before he was snapped up by Middlesbrough in January 1978.

Following spells at Grimsby Town and Gillingham, he joined the Cherries for £15,000 and partnered Trevor Aylott in attack in the club’s first season in the second tier.

He opened his goal account in a 2-1 win at Millwall in November 1987 and was also on target in back-to-back victories over West Brom and Birmingham during the festive period.

David left the Cherries in February 1988 to join Scunthorpe United and also served Darlington and Billingham Synthonia.

AFC Bournemouth would like to extend their condolences to David’s family and friends.
