Long features for Ireland

Shane Long came off the bench but couldn't help Ireland to victory in their second World Cup qualifier last night.

The forward was introduced 17 minutes from time against Luxembourg, as Stephen Kenny's side conceded with five to go at the Aviva Stadium.

Gerson Rodrigues struck the only goal of the game, a superb strike from range, to win it for the visitors, while Ireland's best chance came from James Collins 18 minutes in, but he couldn't get the better of Anthony Moris in goal.

The defeat leaves the side bottom of Group A with no points after two games, having lost earlier in the week away at Serbia.

Fellow Cherries man, Mark Travers, was an unused substitute in Dublin last night.

Elsewhere, Chris Mepham didn't feature for Wales in their 1-0 friendly win against Mexico last night.

A Kieffer Moore effort proved to be the difference in Cardiff, with a much-changed side from that who lost to Belgium in the week.

They now face a huge World Cup Qualifier at home to the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
