Gavin Kilkenny stepped off the bench away from home to help the Republic of Ireland under-21s come from behind to beat Wales under-21s 2-1 in a friendly.

Kilkenny came on with just over 20 minutes to go as the young Irish side came from behind to earn a victory in their first warm-up for the 2023 European Championship qualifiers which kick off in September.

At Colliers Park in Wrexham, Jim Crawford's team were 1-0 up after 12 minutes, before a quickfire second-half double saw Ireland victorious.

Celtic striker Jonathan Afolabi netted the leveller with 14 minutes to play, with the game completely turning on its head just 90 seconds later when a stray back pass from Morgan Boyes trickled in.

Kilkenny, who signed a new contract with the Cherries back in 2019, made his league debut for the Cherries away at Barnsley back in December.
