Kyle Taylor played his part as Southend United climbed out of the League Two relegation zone thanks to a 0-0 draw with leaders Cambridge United.
Taylor made his 17th appearance for the Shrimpers at the Abbey Stadium and was in the thick of the action as the visitors gave a good account of themselves.
The midfielder went close to breaking the deadlock midway through the second half when his shot from a tight angle flashed past the post.
Taylor was also involved when the Blues created their best opening of the game just after half-time, his pass to Simeon Akinola ending with the frontman seeing his shot blocked before Ashley Nathaniel-George’s follow-up effort was charged down.
Taylor, who was replaced by Reeco Hackett-Fairchild in the 70th minute, also supplied the assists for chances for John White in the first half and another for Akinola after the break.
Tyler Cordner was an unused substitute for Mark Molesley’s team as they edged a point clear of Barrow who have three games in hand.
