Kenwyne Jones was a popular figure with supporters of AFC Bournemouth and Cardiff City and we look back at his loan spell with the Cherries in 2014/15 ahead of the Bluebirds’ visit to Vitality Stadium.
Striker Kenwyne Jones made an immediate impact after joining AFC Bournemouth on loan from Cardiff City in March 2015.
He arrived having netted 13 times for the Bluebirds in 2014/15, including their first goal during an eventful 5-3 defeat at Vitality Stadium in the lead up to Christmas.
Ahead of his unveiling, the Cherries topped the Championship table, a point in front of Watford and Middlesbrough, and also led the scoring charts having plundered 82 goals in 39 games.
With the Cherries trailing to Freddie Sears’s sixth-minute opener at Ipswich on Good Friday, Jones was unleashed from the bench as a 79th-minute replacement for Steve Cook.
And just three minutes into his debut, the Trinidad & Tobago international powered home a header from a Matt Ritchie corner to earn the visitors a priceless share of the spoils.
As Cherries supporters inside Portman Road cheered the goal, Jones celebrated in front of them with his trademark somersault routine.
On Easter Monday, Jones replaced Callum Wilson two minutes from the end of a crucial 4-2 home win over Birmingham, the Cherries staging a dramatic comeback from 2-0 down.
Goals from Clayton Donaldson and David Cotterill had given the Blues the lead before efforts from Cook and Wilson restored parity by half-time.
Yann Kermorgant’s penalty and a Charlie Daniels strike completed a league double for the Cherries following their record-breaking 8-0 win at St Andrew’s earlier in the season.
Jones also came on for Wilson in the closing stages of the 2-0 win at Brighton and the 1-0 victory at Reading before playing his part in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday after replacing Cook midway through the second half.
The last of his six substitute appearances came when he replaced Kermorgant eight minutes from time as the Cherries clinched the title following a 3-0 win at Charlton on the final day of the season.
Despite only playing a total of 49 minutes, the former Southampton, Sunderland and Stoke frontman contributed towards four wins and two draws during his brief stay.
Jones retired following a spell in the MLS with Atlanta United and, in January 2021, it was announced he had joined UK-based global sports agency Black Diamond Sports as their managing director for Trinidad & Tobago.
