Dom Sadi continued his impressive run of goalscoring form, as his double helped the AFC Bournemouth development squad to a 2-0 victory at Cardiff City.
The attacking midfielder stuck either side of the interval in Wales, the second coming from the penalty spot as the Cherries recorded their 12th Professional Development League victory of the campaign.
Sadi has now scored five goals in three games, having also netted a brace against Colchester and added to his tally against AFC Totton.
The win kept the pressure on top two Queens Park Rangers and Millwall. The Cherries have now recorded 39 points from 21 league games.
Alan Connell’s side started the brighter of the two at Leckwith but goalkeeper Callan McKenna was on hand to gather a shot from Cian Ashford.
The Cherries then got on the front foot and created chances to break the deadlock.
Kian Tydeman sent a free-kick jut over before Sadi drew a fine save from home keeper Joe Thomas with a whipped effort from the edge of the box.
Tydeman then must have thought he had opened the scoring on 36 minutes. After getting away from his marker to meet a ball from deep, he lobbed the keeper and saw the effort somehow hacked of the line.
But the Cherries opened the scoring through Sadi just a minute later. After Balraj Landa did well to win the ball, Tydeman’s initial effort was saved before Sadi struck home on the follow-up.
Connell’s side did have to weather a foray forward from the Bluebirds just before the break. Raheem Conte’s strike from an acute angle bounced off the near post and fell to safety.
But, despite Cardiff’s Jai Semenyo blazing over from inside the box just after the break, the Cherries then added a second.
After Charlie Osborne won the ball, Karlos Gregory set Sadi in on goal. After he was felled in the box, Sadi picked himself up to slot home the resultant penalty.
The visitors could have added a third midway through the second half. Landa beat two defenders before firing just wide.
And despite Cardiff’s Dylan Lawlor firing off target seven minutes from time, the Cherries held firm to claim all three points.
Connell’s side make the trip to Ipswich and Burnley in league action next week.
