AFC Bournemouth are saddened to learn of the passing of former player John 'Jack' Fisher.
Born in Bermondsey on June 19th 1925, Fisher signed professional terms with Millwall in May 1946, having represented the Royal Navy in wartime service in the Middle East.
A hard-tackling left-back, he played alongside his twin brother George Fisher before signing for the Cherries for £1,000 in June 1949.
At the club, Fisher partnered Laurie Cunningham in the Cherries defence and even captained the side against Millwall, his twin wearing the armband for the opponents.
He made 52 Third Division (South) appearances for the club before turning out for the likes of Ramsgate Athletic, Weymouth and Yeovil Town.
Upon retiring, he became Poole Town's trainer in October 1964, combining the role with his job floor-laying for Sherry & Haycock.
In July 1981, he returned to the club as a coach under his son-in-law David Webb, who'd become player-manager.
Fisher retired in June 1992 having spent time working as a self-employed carpenter.
After retirement, he watched his son-in-law manage the likes of Southend United and Chelsea, while his grandson Daniel played football professionally, and managed Leyton Orient in 2017. He's currently assistant manager at National League side, Chesterfield.
Fisher passed away last week at the age of 96. Everyone at AFC Bournemouth sends their thoughts and condolences to his loved ones.
