Four local charities have received their cheques from AFC Bournemouth after being the club’s charity partners throughout the Premier League campaign last season.
Representatives from Cherry Tree Nursery, the Dorset Children’s Foundation, the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy and Dorset Cancer Care Foundation were on hand at Vitality Stadium to pick up cheques from Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn, with each charity receiving £3,835 to mark the end of their partnership with the club.
During the season, each charity was assigned a themed matchday to help raise their profile, with Dorsey Bear from the Dorset Children’s Foundation also a fun feature around the pitch at Premier League games last season.
A series of other events over the course of the season included:
- Winger Marc Pugh visited Cherry Tree Nursery with volunteers given AFC Bournemouth shirts. The club also collaborated with the charity on a World Mental Health Day event with coach Stephen Purches at Vitality Stadium.
- The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy benefited from the academy’s support and fundraising throughout 2017/18. Students attended FA Youth Cup games at Vitality Stadium and were allowed access to the home dressing room after the under-18s’ win over Hull City.
- The Dorset Children’s Foundation were invited to Junior Cherries events during the year as well as a special event at Vitality Stadium with Callum Wilson and Eddie Howe joining in with games and activities.
It has been a pleasure for the club to work with these four invaluable charities over another successful season on and off the pitch, and we wish the best to all of them for the future.
