Purches: Woking provided a good test, it was a good standard

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Keelan O'Connell and Emerson Hyndman were the scorers against the Vanarama National League side who played a strong squad of experienced players.

That added to the competitive nature of the behind closed doors friendly and Purches believes his side could have been victors on the day.

"It was a good test and a really good game," Purches said.

"It had a competitive nature and Woking came down with their first team and that's a good standard for us to play against.

"It gives the younger lads an opportunity to play against experienced players who have been around the leagues, the example today was Matt Tubbs playing for Woking.

"The more experienced players have knowhow and our young players can learn in those situations.

"I thought the majority of the game was good, especially in the second-half. We were on the front foot and could have won the game if we were a bit more clinical with one of our chances."

First team trio Tyrone Mings, Emerson Hyndman and Lys Mousset all completed 90 minutes for Purches' side against the Cardinals, with the manager praising their mentality towards the game.

He continued: "It's never easy when players get put together without playing together, but it will make the transition easier for when our players go up playing with first-team players.

"The first team lads showed great application, the first team staff were all down here to watch too.

"There was lots to overcome as a group and individuals today and we're pleased with the game, everyone got a lot out of it."
