Opposition guide: Morecambe v AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Nickname: The Shrimps

Manager: Jim Bentley

Current position: 1st in League Two

Ground: Globe Arena

Jim Bentley on the game…

"It is not every day that you get to pit your wits against a Premiership side and that is why it is such a big night for the club and our fans,” said the former Shrimps defender.

“We know we will have to be at our best and Bournemouth to have a poor night to get a result but we do have the belief and we will be giving our all.

"It is a great night for the club and I hope we all rise to the occasion, players and fans alike.”

Previous encounters…

AFC Bournemouth have only met the Shrimps on four previous occasions, all of which came in League Two between 2008 and 2010. The most recent fixture between the sides ended in a 1-0 win for the Cherries thanks to an Anton Robinson goal 18 minutes into the game.

Key man…

Jack Dunn looks to be the Shrimps’ biggest threat with four goals already this season. The 21-year-old’s hat-trick in the first round of the EFL Cup helped guide his side past Championship outfit Rotherham, before he netted in League Two to give Morecambe the three points against Blackpool.

The Liverpool-loanee will be looking to pounce once again, but this time against Premier League opposition.

Cherries v Morecambe in stats…

The Shrimps go into the game sitting at the top of the League Two table, while Eddie Howe’s side have yet to register a win in the opening two games of the new Premier League season.

The Cherries’ largest win over Morecambe came in the form of a 4-0 win away from home on the final day of the 2008-09 season, however seven months later were beaten 5-0 by Sammy McIlroy’s men in what has been their most substantial defeat against the side.

There has only ever been one draw between AFC Bournemouth and Morecambe, coincidentally coming in their first meeting in November 2008.
