Howe: Winning breeds confidence so I'm delighted to win again and remain unbeaten in pre-season

The Cherries have come up against Minnesota United, Portsmouth, Reading, Cardiff City, Valencia and Angers SOC of France and were undefeated ahead of the Manchester United clash next week.

Speaking after the 1-0 win against Angers, who finished ninth in Ligue 1 last season, Howe was pleased to see the team get through a very physical test in the west of France.

"It was a good test against Angers," Howe said.

"Coming here we knew it would be a difficult assignment for us, whenever you play different teams with different styles its always a good test.

"They were a big, strong and athletic side and I thought we coped with it very well. We started brightly with a deserved goal but it became scrappy after that.

"Pre-season is all about minutes and fitness to prepare yourself for that first game, but it is nice if you can get results along the way.

"That breeds confidence and I can't deny that I'm delighted we've won today and have remained unbeaten in pre-season."

Howe has also been enthused by his side's application throughout the pre-season schedule and is hopeful of another good week on the training ground ahead of the big opening day game with Jose Mourinho's Red Devils.

"Hopefully we've given ourselves a good platform," Howe continued.

"I've been very pleased with the lads, they've worked so hard and what delights me is the mentality of the group, none more so than today. It was an early start and a long day, but they were spot on in the warm up before the game and were motivated.

"Over the last few weeks I've seen a group really motivated to train every day, be professional and that means we have a good chance.

"The next week is about honing our play and making sure patterns of play and everything on those lines is refined."
