Experienced goalkeeper Neto played a key role in helping AFC Bournemouth preserve their Premier League status in 2022/23, his first season at Vitality Stadium.

The Brazilian-born shot-stopper kept six clean sheets in 27 appearances in the top flight and was named club captain in January 2023.

Neto joined the Cherries from La Liga powerhouses Barcelona in August 2022, penning an initial 12-month contract. In March 2023, he signed an extension until 2026.

Born in Araxá, Minas Gerais, Neto started his career with Cruzeiro before moving to Club Athletico Paranaense, making his professional debut when he was 19.

In January 2011, Neto joined Italian outfit Fiorentina where he was initially understudy to former Cherries goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Installed as first choice ahead of the 2013/14 season, Neto played a leading role as Fiorentina reached the last 16 and semi-finals of the Europa League and finished as runners-up in the 2014 Coppa Italia.

In July 2015, Neto moved to Juventus where he enjoyed plenty of success serving as back-up to legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

During his time with Juve, the Italian giants recorded back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia titles and also finished as runners-up to Real Madrid in the 2016/17 Champions League.

In July 2017, Neto joined Valencia, helping them to two fourth-placed finishes in La Liga, a Europa League semi-final and victory over Barcelona in the final of the 2018/19 Copa del Rey.

Neto signed for Barcelona in June 2019 and acted as back-up to Germany international Marc-André ter Stegen during his three seasons at Camp Nou.

He featured for the Catalan giants in La Liga, the Champions League and collected a second Copa del Rey winners’ medal in 2020/21.

Since joining the Cherries, Neto has established himself as a firm favourite and was crowned player of the season by the club’s vice-presidents in 2022/23.

On the international stage, Neto was capped six times by Brazil at under-23 level and helped them win a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in England.

He earned his first call-up to the senior squad in September 2010 and won his solitary cap when he kept a clean sheet in a 5-0 win over El Salvador in September 2018.
