Jefferson Lerma enjoyed an impressive first season with AFC Bournemouth after signing from La Liga outfit Levante in August 2018.
He made 30 appearances in the Premier League in 2018/19, including 29 starts, and caught the eye with a series of excellent displays in the Cherries midfield.
Lerma capped his maiden campaign with the club by winning the goal-of-the-season award for his stunning strike at Crystal Palace on the final day.
Before signing for the Cherries, Lerma had recently broken into the Colombia national squad, making his senior debut under Jose Peckerman against Korea Republic in November 2017.
His impressive club form would help Lerma secure a spot in the Colombia squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, during which he featured in all four of his nation’s games.
Lerma made his professional debut at club level with Atletico Huila in his native Colombia in 2013.
Two years later, Lerma joined Levante on a season-long loan before the move was made permanent.
His continued impressive form earned praise from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and, despite relegation to the Segunda Division, Lerma stuck around at Levante to help them bounce back to La Liga at the first time of asking.
In the summer of 2019, Lerma helped Colombia reach the quarter-final of Copa America, starting the group game against Paraquay and coming off the bench against Argentina.
