AFC Bournemouth completed the signing of Colombian international Jefferson Lerma from Levante for a club record fee during the 2018 summer transfer window.
The midfielder had recently broken into the Colombia national squad, making his senior debut under Jose Peckerman against Korea Republic in November 2017.
His impressive club form would help Lerma secure a spot in the Colombia squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, during which he featured in all four of his nation’s games.
Lerma made his professional debut at club level with Atletico Huila in his native Colombia in 2013.
Two years later Lerma would join Spanish side Levante on a season-long loan. After 33 appearances - the majority of which were in central midfield, though he occasionally featured at right-back - during his first season in Spain, the move was made permanent.
His continued impressive form would later earn praise from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, and despite relegation to the Segunda Division Lerma stuck around at Levante to help them bounce back to La Liga at the first time of asking.
