England under-21 international Jack Simpson was the first graduate of the AFC Bournemouth academy to start a Premier League game.
Born in South London and raised in Weymouth, Simpson earned his spurs during a 4-0 defeat by eventual champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in December 2017.
Simpson first joined the Cherries when he was 12 before earning a two-year scholarship as a 16-year-old.
He spent his formative years as a midfielder before Eddie Howe converted him to a central defender - a move which paid handsome dividends, both for the player and the club.
Simpson signed a two-year deal with the Cherries in March 2016 and travelled with the first team on training camps to Spain and Dubai.
He made his first-team debut and opened the scoring in a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the EFL Cup at Vitality Stadium in October 2017. Simpson also had a hand in the Cherries' second goal when he was fouled for a penalty which was converted by Callum Wilson.
Simpson also started the EFL quarter-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December 2017 where Alvaro Morata's injury-time winner denied the Cherries of the chance to reach the last four for the first time in their history.
And just three days later, Simpson was handed his full Premier League debut against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Simpson was rewarded with a new two-and-a-half year deal in January 2018, contracting him to the club until the summer of 2020.
Early in the 2018/19 season, Simpson started EFL Cup wins over MK Dons and Blackburn and came off the bench in the fourth round victory over Norwich at Vitality Stadium.
In November 2018, Simpson made his debut for England under-21s in a 5-1 win against Denmark in a friendly in Esbjerg. His Cherries teammate Lewis Cook captained the Young Lions, while Dom Solanke was on target twice for England.
Simpson again lined up against Chelsea in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup at Stamford Bridge when the Cherries bowed out in the last eight for the second year in succession in December 2018.
And having featured in the third round replay defeat at Wigan in January 2018, he made his second appearance in the FA Cup when he started the 3-1 defeat by Brighton in the third round at Vitality Stadium in January 2019.
Simpson was involved in the final five Premier League games of 2018/19 and started the last three against Southampton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
