Sam Sherring joined the Cherries in 2007 and has worked his way through the development centre and academy ranks at Vitality Stadium.
Born in Dorchester and raised near Bridport, he attended Salway Ash Primary and Beaminster School and skippered the Cherries to EFL Youth Alliance Cup glory in 2017.
The central defender has enjoyed two successful loan spells at Weymouth, helping the Terras to back-to-back promotions.
He was a key player as Weymouth were crowned Southern League champions in 2018/19, making 37 league and cup appearances.
Sherring signed a new contract with the club before rejoining Weymouth in the summer of 2019 where he was part of the Terras’ successful promotion from National League South, making 11 appearances in the 2019/20 season.
He was loaned to Torquay United in 2020/21 and made 49 appearances in all competitions as they reached the National League play-off final and the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy.
Sherring netted three league goals for the Gulls and helped them keep 17 clean sheets.
Although Gary Johnson's team lost out to Hartlepool in the play-off final, Sherring was named in the Vanarama team of the season in what was a hugely-impressive individual campaign for the defender.
Sherring trained with Scott Parker’s squad ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season and started the 2-1 defeat by Granada in a pre-season friendly during their training camp in Spain.
He made 14 appearances in all competitions during a loan spell with League One Accrington Stanley during the first half of 2021/22 before linking up with Cambridge United for the second half of the campaign.
