Women's development side draw with Rushmoor

AFC Bournemouth’s development side played out a 1-1 draw with visitors Rushmoor Community Women on Sunday.

Helen Corbin struck the only goal for the Cherries, who fought back from a goal down to secure a point.

The game started brightly for the hosts, who were creating chances from the off, Corbin almost netting early on with the Rushmoor ‘keeper saving well.

The Cherries kept pushing and Sofia Sinaguglia, Ayuma Asira and Corbin all came close to scoring.

However, it was Rushmoor who took the lead just before half time. Following some neat play down the right, a low cross found the striker in the box, whose shot found its way past Cherries ‘keeper Steph Small.

Nevertheless, the hosts responded well and equalised immediately after the break. An excellent pass from Chira Andreotti found Asira, who controlled well before playing in Corbin to poke home.

With the Cherries buoyed, the side pushed for a winner but a strong Rushmoor defence ensured there was no way through.

Up the other end, the visitors nearly won it themselves, but Small stepped up to make two excellent saves in the final ten minutes to ensure the points were shared.

Following the game, coach David Staddon shared his thoughts on the draw.

“We can take some real positives from the performance, as the young side adjust to senior football,” he said.

“We were pleased with the chances created and the overall display.”
