Goalscorer Kenni Thompson hailed the way AFC Bournemouth women stuck to the task to seal all three points in dramatic fashion at Bridgwater United.
With the game poised a 2-2 after goals from Chloe Gilroy and Molly Barron-Clark for the Cherries, Steve Cuss’s side were piling the pressure on the Robins in search of another National League Division One South West victory.
Step forward Bermuda international Thompson, who found space to curl the ball into the top corner two minutes from time and put the Dorset club ahead.
Lucy Cooper added another to make it 4-2, as the Cherries remained eight points behind leaders Exeter City with Two games in hand.
Speaking to afcb.co.uk, Thompson said: “It was more relief than anything. We fought really hard towards the end, hit the post numerous times, so to see one go in was a bit of relief to finally get the result.
“It really sums us up as a team. We don’t quit until the last minute and that’s what happened. We kept on going and got another one afterwards. That’s just us. We keep pushing, keep going and believe in ourselves.”
The Cherries also had to overcome adversity when goalkeeper Daniela Kosińska was forced off with a leg injury, after a hefty collision with Bridgwater’s Chloe Snook.
Midfielder Katie James donned the goalkeeping gloves in place of Kosińska.
“Emotions were up and down, especially losing Dani in the beginning but we’ve got that type of squad where we can put an outfield player in goal and put a shift in. We fight for each other, no matter what,” said Thompson.
“Dani is a strong type of person that would get up no matter what. We’re hoping for the best and we just want her to be okay at the end of the day.
“We’ve got another goalkeeper (Katie Scadding) who can come in on Thursday and if necessary for the rest of the season.”
The Cherries make the trip to Southampton Women in their next league encounter on Thursday (7.45pm kick-off).
