AFC Bournemouth
There were four wins and a defeat for the Cherries girls and development squad last weekend.
Under-10s
The youngest age group cruised into the next round of the League Cup in style, with an impressive victory away to Overton.
The girls were good in possession and created chances to share the goals around the team. Krystal, Isabella, Zuzanna, Isla, Niamh and Zara all scored, with the latter scoring the pick of the goals.
Under-12s
Demonstrating good quality from the start, the girls pressed well up the pitch and showed composure on the ball throughout. This pressure was epitomised for the first two goals, where Bobbi and Isobel won the ball high up the pitch to finish for their first goals of the game.
Combinations were highlighted before half time as Isobel and Phoebe combined for the latter to finish well. Kayleigh remained aware at the back and played well with her feet, starting off a move along with Faye, which ended up at Bobbi’s feet for her to complete a hat-trick.
Two late long-distance strikes from Zara, one of which lobbed the goalkeeper, finished off the game for a comprehensive performance from the girls and completed a 12-0 victory to progress to the next round of the competition.
Under-14s
A 2-0 victory against Mudeford Phoenix secured progression in the Hampshire Cup for AFC Bournemouth under-14s. The Cherries went ahead within the opening ten minutes, when Lucy won the ball and managed to get through on goal, placing the ball in the bottom corner.
Lucy scored again ten minutes into the second half. Aimee received the ball beyond her opposing full-back and drove in towards goal, before she squared the ball to the on-rushing striker, who tapped it in to win the game 2-0.
Under-16s
Despite a scrappy start against Portsmouth, the Cherries took the lead five minutes into the game, when Elle picked up the ball on the edge of the box and drilled it low into the bottom-left corner of the net. The lead didn’t last long, as Pompey soon broke free and equalised just three minutes later.
Half-time changes meant the Cherries were able to restrict their opponents and limit their attacking threat during the second period. Kitty provided a good outlet in wider areas and after a few testing efforts finished well in the top left corner with a strike from the edge of the box, before she quickly added a second as she scored from a cross. A further two goals were added by Hannah, one of which she finished as she spun her marker to rifle home a shot, before a final effort was added by Be-Be who struck home from 35 yards out.
Development Squad
The AFC Bournemouth Women’s Development squad played at home for the first time this season, as they hosted Wycombe Wanderers’ development team. Goalkeeper Katie Scadding was forced into early action, as she dived low at the feet of the visiting striker to deny her early efforts. Moments after, Larissa White had a chance at the other end to get ahead. Despite both teams having several chances, the score remained level at half time.
The second half saw the home side raise the intensity of their play and, despite a positive start, it would be Wycombe that took the lead when their left winger cut inside the penalty area. The Cherries continued to push for the goal that would put them level and in the 81st minute it finally arrived. Ayuma Asira produced a low cross into the box from the left- hand side and White was on hand to toe-poke the ball into the bottom corner and ensure that we had a lively final ten minutes remaining.
As the clock ran down and with only seconds remaining, Wycombe won a free-kick which was played high into the box. The AFC Bournemouth defenders and ‘keeper were unable to clear and the ball passed them all into the back of the net to give the visitors the three points.
