Recent recruit Kenni Thompson netted for a third game in succession as AFC Bournemouth drew 1-1 with fellow National League high-fliers Exeter City on Sunday.

Thompson headed home Molly Barron-Clark’s precise cross to give the Cherries the lead on the stroke of half-time at the Ringwood Community Hub.

But Exeter, pipped for promotion by Cardiff City last season, drew level when free-scoring Jenna Markham registered her 22nd goal of the season two minutes after half-time.

Both Thompson and Barron-Clark were denied by Abbi Bond in the second half, the Exeter goalkeeper starring as the visitors claimed a share of the points.

The result ensured Exeter would retain pole position in Division One South West as both teams maintained their unbeaten records.

The Grecians are six points ahead of second-placed Cherries and have a superior goal difference, although Steve Cuss’s team have two games in hand.

They are due to renew rivalries in Devon on the final day of the season.
