Goals from Gemma McGuinness and Chloe Gilroy saw AFC Bournemouth women book a place in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history.

The Cherries triumphed 2-1 against National League counterparts Swindon Town at the County Ground to put themselves in the hat for Monday’s draw.

Steve Cuss’s team reached the break trailing to Annie Colston’s first-half penalty, the hosts defending resolutely to preserve their advantage in the face of a second-half onslaught.

However, their resolve was finally broken when McGuinness netted a finely-taken leveller 13 minutes from time, her goal coming after the Cherries had twice hit the woodwork and had another chance cleared off the line.

Substitute Gilroy prompted jubilant scenes in the visitors’ camp when she grabbed a dramatic injury-time winner, finishing with aplomb after being teed up by Amber Treweek’s excellent pass.
