Gallery: Cherries secure county cup final place

AFC Bournemouth will get the chance to defend the Adopt South Women’s Hampshire Senior Cup after winning through to the final following a dramatic penalty shootout win over Moneyfields on Sunday.

Steve Cuss’s team lifted the trophy on a memorable May evening last season after triumphing on penalties against Southampton RTC Academy at Portsmouth’s Fratton Park headquarters.

The Cherries faced National League counterparts Moneyfields at Chichester City’s Oaklands Park after seeing off Portsmouth and Southampton Women reserves in the previous two rounds.

And there was very little between the teams during the 90 minutes when clear goalscoring opportunities were at a premium.

Cuss’s team had two efforts ruled out, a first-half header from Erin Bloomfield for a push and a second-half strike from Alisha Buckingham for a hairline offside decision.

In the shootout, Molly Barron-Clark, Bloomfield, Buckingham, Kenni Thompson and Gemma Hillier all converted, while Kim Fuller blazed Moneys’ first spot-kick over the crossbar.

And although teammates Gemma Simmonds, Sophie Phelps and Kau’lnohea Taylor scored, the Cherries prevailed 5-3.

The Cherries’ opponents in the final are not yet known. The three other remaining teams in the competition are Southampton Women, AFC Portchester and Southampton FC Pro Game Academy under-21s. The final takes place at Aldershot’s EBB Stadium on Monday 13th May (7.45pm kick-off).
