Cooper eager to keep goals coming on women's team's quest

Lucy Cooper shared her hunger for continually finding the net for AFC Bournemouth’s women this season.

The 18-year-old struck the latest of her 15 goals for the campaign as Steve Cuss’s side sealed a 3-1 victory at Keynsham Town last time out.

Prior to that, her most recent strike came in a 3-0 victory over Swindon Town back in January.

“I was happy with it. It felt like I hadn’t scored in ages,” she told afcb.co.uk, on her latest goal at AJN Stadium.

“I should have probably scored about six in that game (against Keynsham) but one’s better than none!”

Cooper will be looking to add to her tally when the Cherries host Abingdon United Ladies at Ringwood Community Hub on Sunday (2pm).

She first joined the club in 2016, having previously played for Broadstone Girls, and has fired her way through the ranks at the club.

The striker has played a key role in ensuring the Cherries remain unbeaten in National League South this season, with 11 victories coming from 12 league outings.

Cooper added: “Honestly, when I came in, it was just a case of I want to score as many goals as possible.

“As a centre-forward, all I want to do is score.

“It would be great at the end of the season to be averaging a goal a game and try to get that up, but any goal is a winner.”

AFC Bournemouth women are also in action at Vitality Stadium against Keynsham Town Ladies on Sunday, March 24th. You can book tickets and select your seat here.
